 Hymnathon

On Sunday afternoons throughout August, our assistant organist, Lesley Burch, will be attempting the epic challenge of playing every hymn in the hymn book to help raise funds for the Friends of St. Michael’s Emergency Appeal!

This event has been co-ordinated to complement Summer Teas.

There are 628 hymns in the Common Praise hymn book, there are five Sundays in August, and so that’s roughly 125 per week. Hymns will be played in numeric order unless otherwise requested (keep reading).

How can you help and participate?

1. Come along, listen, enjoy, and make a donation. Then come to the Church hall for summer teas (home baked cakes, cream teas, ices).

2. If you would like to hear your favourite hymns played at a time of your choosing, for a donation of £5 you can select your two favourite hymns to be played when you’d like.

3. If you would like your favourite two hymns to be sung by at least a trio consisting of members of the choir, then for a donation of £15 this can be arranged at a mutually convenient time.

As you may appreciate, the hymns are grouped, so come along on the first two Sundays, 3rd and 10th of August, and you’ll get all the Church seasons in two afternoons – Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter through to Trinity. The final three weeks will feature hymns of a more general theme
